Using Foil Is Life
The service is operated by Foil Is Life, located in South Lake Tahoe, California, United States. You must be at least 16 years old to use this release. We intend to serve riders worldwide, subject to applicable legal availability. Privacy contact: privacy@foilislife.com.
Foil Is Life provides a foiling journal, a private equipment garage, saved ride review, public profiles, a shared product catalog, product reviews, and session sharing. Device recording features depend on supported Apple hardware, permissions, account connection, and internet access for synchronization.
Sign in to create or change records. Keep your account and approved devices under your control. Use the account that owns a ride; changing accounts does not transfer ownership of a saved recording. You can manage sign-in through Clerk and revoke direct Watch upload access through Connected Watches.
Facebook sign-in is planned and remains disabled in production. Its planned email and public_profile permissions support basic authentication through Facebook and Clerk; they do not request access to Facebook friends, photos, or posts. Foil Is Life Friends are separate connections made within this service.
Use the service honestly and respect other riders. Do not impersonate someone, attempt to access another person's private data, interfere with the service, bypass authorization, harass others, or submit unlawful content. Upload or contribute only material you are entitled to use and share. Obtain any needed permission before including another person's image or personal information.
Your content and sharing choices
You retain your rights in the content you contribute. By saving or uploading it, you permit Foil Is Life and the service providers needed to operate it to store, process, and display it for the features you use and the visibility you choose. Public content and ride links permit the corresponding display to visitors or link recipients. This permission is for operating the service; it does not transfer ownership of your content.
Your application profile and selected avatar are public. Your garage, garage notes, and personal equipment images are private inventory. Saving equipment does not require catalog approval or a catalog match.
Sessions start privately. Manage access offers Only me, Friends, or Everyone, saved through an explicit owner action. Friends access requires a mutually accepted Foil Is Life connection; pending or crossed requests grant no access. Acceptance applies to existing rides marked Friends, and removal ends that access. Friends can read shareable ride details, broad places, ordinary notes, and saved gear details, while exact coordinates, routes, recorded health readings, and original session media remain withheld. Manage connections and inspect sharing in More → Sharing.
Choosing Everyone publishes a session and is your choice to expose its public session details, notes, attached media, and the saved gear details recorded for that session. Those saved details include the saved brand, model, size, equipment reference, and confirmed catalog links where present; it does not give access to your garage. Later changes to your equipment do not replace a published session's saved gear details.
Exact session and saved photo coordinates require the public session's separate exact-location choice. Recorded routes and recorded health readings remain excluded from ordinary public session pages. Original media can contain embedded capture and location details even when saved location details are withheld. Review files before publishing a session or selecting a public avatar.
A ride link grants anyone holding it read-only access, including people who receive a forwarded copy. It can last 24 hours, seven days, or indefinitely until revoked. Exact location/route, recorded metrics including available health readings, and original media each require separate opt-in choices. Audience and private-link access are independent: choosing Only me or removing a friend does not revoke an active link. Replacing link settings invalidates the previous link. Turning the private link off or expiry stops future authorized link reads, but cannot recall copies already delivered or saved by recipients.
The Privacy Policy explains these data boundaries and controls.
Catalog contributions and community content
Product submissions are suggestions for moderation, separate from your private ownership records. A moderator decides which contributions enter the shared catalog and which duplicate products are merged. Duplicate suggestions can include advisory AI results; AI does not autonomously create or merge catalog records. Catalog records, variants, aliases, and links may change during moderation while references are preserved.
Product reviews concern shared catalog products rather than another rider's physical inventory. Public session-photo comments require an authenticated account and a publicly visible photo. Reports are reviewed through moderation. Community reviews, comments, and product information may contain mistakes; assess them before relying on them for a purchase or riding decision.
Recording and availability limits
GPS and sensor readings can have gaps or errors. The measurements available depend on device permissions and supported hardware. Watch wrist-depth readings describe the wrist below the surface; they do not measure seabed depth. Saved measurements and maps do not establish safe conditions or replace your judgment while riding.
Finishing a ride on Watch does not guarantee it has reached the server. Keep track of pending or failed synchronization and the server receipt. The website can show uploaded results but cannot inspect a recording still saved only on your Watch or iPhone. Background upload timing depends on the device operating system and connectivity. Video playback depends on browser and file-format support.
Changing and removing content
Available owner controls let you edit your profile and session details, change visibility and location choices, remove individual uploaded media, replace or revoke ride links, retire or restore gear, and revoke Watch upload access.
Journal Delete removes a session from normal viewing and public access while retaining it for restoration with its media, gear history, and recording. Restoring it returns it privately. The old ride link stays revoked permanently. Delete is not permanent data erasure, and revoking a device does not erase saved rides. Local recordings and exports can remain on your devices.
Permanent account deletion is separate from journal Delete and provider unlinking. On web and iPhone, open More → Account → Delete account, complete recent sign-in verification as needed, and type DELETE MY ACCOUNT exactly. It cannot be undone. Acceptance removes the account's application data and access; uploaded-file and Clerk sign-in-account cleanup continue in the background. Uploaded catalog images are included, while shared catalog records remain with removed images no longer shown and identifying author details removed from product-merge history. A limited record identifying the deleted account indirectly, together with cleanup status, remains to stop old app connections from recreating its data.
The iPhone attempts to clean up files for your account and sends a cleanup request to its connected Watch. Offline devices must receive that request before their cleanup runs. Exports, older unidentifiable temporary files, Apple Health workouts, recipient-saved copies, and provider backups have separate limits. Acceptance does not mean immediate erasure of every copy. See the account-deletion instructions.
Removing Google authorization, or Facebook authorization if enabled later, changes that provider connection; it does not itself delete the Foil Is Life account or saved content. Account deletion does not delete your Google or Facebook account.
